We are pleased to share that Dr. Laura Penalo, NYSIM’s Health Professions Director, is now a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH)!
Two of NYSIM’s team members, Porsche Scott and Virginia Drda, have recently published poetry in Agora Magazine, the NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s annual arts and literature magazine. Agora’s editorial team selects works for publication based on alignment with a given theme. In 2022-2023 the theme was Transition, and with the artists’ permission NYSIM is also sharing their work here! Please enjoy, and join us in congratulating both Porsche and Ginny!
This month NYSIM congratulates our two Senior Simulation Operations Associates (SOA), Cynthia Reyes and Sean Overstreet, on their recent Employee Recognition awards!
NYSIM is proud to feature a recent precollege, community outreach simu- lation supported on-site in April 2023 led by Drs. LaTasha Fraser and Jor- dan Gitlin. This simulation is part of the curriculum for the NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s STEP program. STEP promotes and provides access, opportunity, and representation to historically underrepresented groups in healthcare, as well as economically disadvantaged youth living in the New York City metropolitan area.

NYSIM recently acquired two new Laparoscopy trainers. These trainers allow learners to get a feel for the basics of laparoscopic surgery and suturing. They come with multiple exercises of varying degrees of difficulty, including 3D med skill building tasks and suturing pads. Some of NYSIM’s programs are already tak- ing advantage of this resource, highlighted below! For a complete list of NYSIM’s simulation education equipment, please see our website here: https://nysimcenter.org/equipment
NYSIM’s SP Program Supervisor Brielle Blatt and Associate Medical Directors Deepak Pradhan, MD and Joanne Agnant, MD attended the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), an annual conference that explores the latest innovations and best practices in healthcare simulation. We can hardly wait to share our learnings and future new equipment with the NYSIM learning community!
Brielle Blatt presented at the Poster Professor Rounds on "Addressing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Simulation through Development of a Central Education Resource: OSCE Case Library and Diverse Standardized Participant Workforce". We would like to thank our poster co-authors: Katie Allen, Katie Tame, Ginny Drda, Richard Greene, Jeffrey Manko, Donna Phillips, and Sandy Zabar.
We recently published an article on this topic in "Really Good Stuff" in the Medical Education journal. Read about our work in the arti- cle linked here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/medu.14900
